River water turbidity removal using new natural coagulant aids: case study of Euphrates River, Iraq

Abstract For turbidity removal, most drinking water treatment plants are using coagulants due to the presence of suspended and colloidal materials at coagulation flocculation units. Aluminium sulphates salts widely used coagulants, such as aluminium sulphate (Alum) ferric chloride. However, several researches have linked Alzheimer's disease use sulphate. Hence, scholars conducted on possibility reduce amount by natural material/plants base coagulant aids. In this study, Mallow's Leaves Extracts (MLE) Carob's Pods (CPE) were an alternative aid. Couples tests implemented find optimal dosage coagulants. The results displayed that maximum removal efficiency adding 100% each coagulant, i.e. alum, MLE CPE, 61.16, 51.175 37.12%, respectively. addition, minimum residual 4.56 NTU 97.72% 22.5 alum 7.5 presenting 30 mg/L dosing.
